WARRIORS ROUT EAGLES IN OPENER

The Warrior's Pony A's served notice that the "Kickin Down the Door" theme for this year's BAAA was far more than just words as they galloped into Taneytown on the warpath and ambushed the FSK Eagles with a convincing 25-0 scalping.
Using a potent offense that amassed over 200 yards on the ground using eight different ball carriers  and a smothering defense that yielded only 9 total yards to FSK along with  no first downs, the boys from Boonsboro completely dominated all phases of the game.
The opening series certainly did not give any clue  as to  what was to come as the Warriors were 4 and out on their first possession. However, the defense lead by the quick penetrations of Zach McClure into the Eagle backfield soon gave evidence  to the crowd that Eagle yards were going to be  hard come by against the swarming Warrior  defense.
Shutting FSK down to  negative yardage in  their first series, Bryce Rogers on the first play of our second possession set the tone for a rejuvenated offense and rambled 34 yards to the "happy hunting grounds" and gave our boys a lead they would never relinquish.
Boonsboro would add two more TDS in the second quarter.  Cole Menas scored an 11 yard run at the 5:25 mark following a Cameron McClellan 40 yard rollout run to set up the score.   Then Bryce Rogers scored a second time with 1:52 remaining on 28 yard race to the endzone.
Leading 19-0 at half the Warriors were poised for liberal substitution in the second half. Immediately on the kickoff to the Eagles, Bryce Rogers mada bone jarring hit on the FSK return man that sent a resounding message to the faithful that there would be no let up.
Only a 30 minute thunderstorm  delay coupled with detoriating field conditions curtailed the Warrior effort.
The final Boonsboro score came in the final two minutes of the game compliments of Jack Kransy's  last two carries , one for 39 yards and the other for 11 to the endzone to give Boonsboro their final 25-0 margin.
The running game proved to be outstanding this day for the Warriors with Bryce Rogers leading the way with 61 yards and two TDS, Jack Kransy 57 yards and TD and Cole Menas 39 yards and TD. QB Cameron McClellan chipped in another 40 yards on the ground.
Defensively, Zach McClure lead the way with 4 tackles and Steve Smothers 2 1/2.
It was a 24 by 24 man effort as the Warriors start their season 1-0 and await the Knights of the Valley from Middletown next Sunday.

"B"

The first game of the 2009 PONY B Warrior season was against the Middletown Knights. The game started off slow, with Warriors on offense. After a rough start, the Warriors took defense. The Knights scored a touchdown, leaving the Warriors to stop the additional point. Making the score 0-6 Knights. Late in the second half quarterback Ben Burgan made a great 40 yard run, but was stopped 3 yards short for the touchdown. On the next play, Cameron Martin made the touchdown. Ben Burgan then scored the extra point making the score 7-6 Warriors. Isahia Redman made a great stop in the backfield after the Knights got the ball. On the last play of the first half, the Warriors worked together to make a great defensive stop to end the half.

Opening up the second half, Nelson Nicholas made a great tackle on the kickoff. Jacob Feaster made a great defensive stop and on the next play Feaster again made an awesome play sacking three Knights at the same time. Early in the fourth quarter, Kwantoe White made a great play for another touchdown for the Warriors. The score was now 13-6 Warriors. Later on in the quarter Nelson Nicholas made a great 50 yard touchdown. Ben Burgan kept the ball and made the extra point scoring once again for the Warriors, making the score 20-6 Warriors. Boonsboro Warriors vs. Middletown Knights

The Boonsboro JV B Warriors kicked off their season with an early away game against the Middletown Knights. The weather was nice, there was a breeze in the air, and all of the Warrior supporters were anxious for a great game. The Warriors won the coin toss, but chose to defer, so Middletown would have the first possession of the game. The ball was kicked to the 30 yard line, and the Knights took it all the way down field for the touchdown. Not really the way the Warriors wanted to start out. Fortunately, their great defense was able to prevent the extra point. The score was now Boonsboro 0, Knights 6.

The Knights kicked the ball to the 50 yard line, where it was recovered by #10 (insert name here) of the Warriors. Now it was the Warrior’s turn to attempt some points. On the first play of the drive, #16  Devin Griffith ran for a one yard gain. On third down, #2 Brent Leone ran for a five yard gain, but there was a penalty on the play against the Warriors, so they were backed up ten yards, making it 3rd down again. There was another penalty on the next play, when Brent handed the ball to #16 Devin Griffith, for an illegal procedure against Boonsboro. This kicked them back another five yards, causing a 3rd down with 26 yards to go. The next play didn’t help much because the Warriors lost 6 yards. Now, it was 4th and 32. #40 Owen Glass ran for five yards before being tackled by Knights. There was yet another flag on the play against the Warriors, but Middletown declined, regaining possession of the ball.

The Knights began at their own 35 yard line. On the first play, they gained 10 yards. The runner was stopped by #18 Hunter Jacobs. The next play was a gain of 6 yards, but #43 Duncan Rowland was there to make the tackle. Middletown fumbled and recovered it for a loss of a yard. With 3rd down and 5 to go, the Knights not only gained a first down, but also 6 more points off of a 20 yard run. The extra point was stopped by #20 Dillon Bodenheimer. The score was now 0-12 in favor of the Knights.

#44 Chris Deckert of the Warriors recovered the kickoff at the 25 yard line, and ran for 20 yards to the 45. Boonsboro gained 2 yards on each of the next 3 plays, with efforts made by #40 Owen Glass, #18 Hunter Jacobs, and #2 Brent Leone. This ended the quarter. When play resumed, Brent ran again for a gain of 7 yards and the first down. The ball was now on the Knight’s 44 yard line. The Middletown defense was offsides. Boonsboro accepted the penalty, making it 1st and 5. Though the Warriors made a great effort, they lost some yards on two plays and fumbled the ball on 3rd and 11, which the Knights recovered at the Boonsboro 47. They attempted to run, but Brent Leone was there to make the tackle. There was also a penalty on the play against the Knights, which gave them a 1st and 15. Owen Glass and Duncan Rowland made an awesome tackle for a loss of 3 yards. Middletown attempted a pass, but it was broken up by #30 Alex Wetzel and Brent Leone. On 3rd and 18, the Middletown runner took the ball 60 yards for the touchdown. They also got the extra point, making the score Boonsboro 0, Knights 19.

The kickoff was received by the Warriors at their own 30, but there was no return. Alex Wetzel ran up the middle for a gain of 3. The next two plays totaled for a loss of a couple yards. On 4th and 10, Boonsboro ran a reverse to #16 Devin Griffith for a gain of 4 yards. Middletown got the ball back on a turnover on downs. They attempted a pass on the first play, but Brent Leone was there to break it up. Alex Wetzel made a nice stop on the next play for a loss of a yard. #43 Duncan Rowland and #13 Keegan Long made a good stop to end the half with the Knights up 0-19.

Boonsboro received the kickoff at their own 46, where #43 Stephen Duncan recovered the ball. #44 Chris Deckert ran up the middle for a gain of 1. #40 Owen Glass also ran up the middle to add 2 yards. #16 Devin Griffith ran for a gain of 7. On 4th and about 1, tossed a pitch to #44 Chris Deckert however, they were unable to convert. Middletown took over at their own 45. They began by running for a gain of 4 yards, stopped by #37. On the second play, the Knights fumbled and recovered it for no gain. They ran and gained a first down, being stopped by #18 Hunter Jacobs and #64 Samuel Krasny. Another run of 14 yards placed the ball at the Boonsboro 22. There was a false start by the Knights, pushing them back 5 yards. Next, Middletown gained 6 yards and the runner was stopped by #40 Owen Glass and #13 Keegan Long. Owen also made another tackle on the next play for no gain. The next two plays consisted of an incomplete pass and a run out of bounds short of the first down. Boonsboro regained possession of the ball.

From their own 8 yard line, Brent Leone of the Warriors attempted a pass to #7 Matt Porterfield, which was unfortunately unsuccessful. This ended the quarter, and Boonsboro only had 8 minutes to make up some ground. #30 Alex Wetzel ran up the middle and gained 5 yards. Brent also ran for a first down in this series. With a fresh set of downs, #44 Chris Deckert ran and gained 3 yards. #16 Devin Griffith made a nice attempt to run, however, the Middletown defense pushed him back 3 yards. Brent ran again on the next two plays for a total of 4 yards, but it wasn’t enough to convert, and the Knights took over again. They had an incomplete pass, a gain of a yard, and a complete pass for a first down. Middletown ran for 7 yards, but was stopped with tackles by #24 Nick Miller and #64 Samuel Krasny on the next play, the Knights ran and scored a touchdown, making the score Boonsboro 0, Middletown 25. The extra point was good, and that concluded the game, a 0-26 shut out by the Middletown Knights. Better luck next week to the Warriors who face the other Middletown JV team!!!

Sunday the Knights of the Valley rode onto the happy hunting grounds of the Warrior A Ponies and laid claim to the gridiron with  a convincing 22-0 victory.

It was all Knights from the opening series as their defense held the Warriors to minus yardage and then put together a six play drive to paydirt at the 2:16 mark of the first quarter and a 6-0 lead. Their PAT failed. Boonsboro tried to respond to the score, but once again went 4 and out to the unyielding Middletown defense. However, this time the Warriors stepped up their defensive prowess with Dylan Vann,Steve Smothers, Brett Duft, Travis Moats and Cole Menas leading defense that shut the Knights down at the Warrior 3 yard line. Unfortunately, the celebration was shortlived as the Knights tackled the Boonsboro QB in the endzone following a penalty for a safety and 8-0 lead. Then following the free kick the Knights again struck with a 27 yard TD pass and extra point to close out the first half leading 15-0.
After halftime Boonsboro made  some interior line  adjustments and began to take control of the line of scrimmage both defensively and offensively for the first time in the game. Cole Menas,Brett Duft, Cameron McClellan and Steve Smothers all began to gain positive yardage while the defense lead by Colin Reece, Jack Krasny, Ryan Nikirk, Ben Burgan and Cole Menas jammed up the Knights' runners effectively during the third quarter. It wasn't until 4:18 remained in the game did the Orange find endzone for a final time. The game ended that way  with the score 22-0.
The Warriors' record is now 1-1 as they travel to Gamber Smallwood on Saturday seeking to climb back over the .500 mark  and rekindle playoff aspirations.

Middletown vs. Boonsboro

8/30/09 JV B

With a chill in the air, the Warrior fans gathered at their home field to watch the JV B team take on the other JV B Middletown has to offer. The teams were equally matched skill wise, and it turned out to be a great game.

The Knights began the game by kicking the ball to the 40 yard line, where it was received by #43 Duncan Rowland of the Warriors. They gained 5 yards in 3 plays, with a holding on 3rd and 7, declined by Middletown. On 4th and 5, #2 Brent Leone ran for the first down. He also ran on 2nd and 10 for another first down. Boonsboro almost lost a fumble on 3rd and 7, but they recovered. They were unable to convert after a very good run to begin the game. Middletown took over and thanks to the amazing Warrior defense, went 4 and out.

Boonsboro took over again and ran one play before the quarter ended, where #16 Devin Griffith ran for 2 yards. The Warriors tried 3 more times, but unfortunately had the same fate as Middletown. They took over and gained a first down in two tries. The next two plays had the same outcome, with a tackle made by #13 Keegan Long. The Knights were faced with a 1st and 15, 2nd and 11, 3rd and 14, 3rd and 19, and finally a 4th and 12. They went for a pass and completed to gain the first down. Middletown gained a first down on the next play as well, where the runner was tackled by many Warrior defenders. They were now at the Boonsboro 20. The plays consisted of a run attempt, 2 incomplete passes and a tackle by #30 Alex Wetzel. The Warriors took over and went 4 and out to end the half.

The Knights received the kick at their own 40 and were stopped by #40 Owen Glass. They attempted runs on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd downs, but were stopped by #23 Colin Mannix, #20 Dillon Bodenheimer, and #2 Brent Leone. They converted on the 4th down, being stopped by Dillon again. Middletown had a long run of plays, including an incomplete pass, gaining two 1st downs, and run-ins with the Warrior defense which resulted many times in a loss of yards. In the end, the Knights faced a 4th and 13 and were unable to convert. The Warriors took over in the 4th quarter with running efforts made by #2 Brent Leone, #16 Devin Griffith, and #44 Chris Deckert. Unfortunately it was not enough to get the first down.

The Knights took over, being stopped by #23 Colin Mannix and #20 Dillon Bodenheimer. On 3rd and 2, Middletown scored a touchdown, making the score 6-0. They false started on the extra point, and the penalty yards didn’t help much. The score remained Knights 6 Warriors 0. #2 Brent Leone of

the Warriors received the kick and ran for 10 yards. Boonsboro fumbled on 1st down, but thankfully recovered it. There were 2 penalties, one against Middletown forcing 2nd and 6, and a false start against Boonsboro forcing a 2nd and 11. The Warriors were very unlucky on the next two plays, losing 3 yards and Middletown recovering a fumble. The Knights ended the game by taking a knee, sealing their 6-0 victory over the Warriors. Better luck to the Warriors next week when they travel to Gamber and take on the Mustangs.

The Band of Warrior Pony A's awakened from a first half slumber and tamed  the first half galloping herd of Mustangs with an impressive 12-0 whitewashing Saturday afternoon at Deer Park in Smallwood.
It was a tale of two halves with  the first half seeing the Warriors groping  for yardage against a stingy Gamber Smallwood 4/4 defense and  hanging  on  to a 0-0 score at intermission thanks to  several key fumble recoveries by Brett Duft , Steve Smothers and Bryce Rogers that each time turned back sustained Mustang drives into Warrior territory. Gamber had rambled for over 100 yards on the ground in the first half, while Boonsboro mustered only 22 total yards offense 9 of them coming on a Cole Menas 9 yd. pass to Travis Moats to end the half. Defensively in the first half the efforts of Cole Menas,  Colin Reece, Jack Kransy, Brett Duft, Ryan Nikirk, Bryce Rogers and Steve Smothers displayed a defensive effort that was bending , but not breaking under a relentless stampede of Mustang running backs.
The second half was a totally different story.
Steve Smothers took the opening kickoff and after breaking several initial tackles rambled 79 yards to put the Warriors ahead to stay. Smothers electrifying run set the tempo for entirely different second half on the line of scrimmage. Boonsboro totally dominated the trenches on both sides of the ball. The Mustangs offense which moved freely in the first half totalled -4 yards the entire second half as the Warrior defense swarmed and gang tackled Gamber ball carriers and pressured their quarterback repeatedly. Dylan Vann, Cole Menas, Zach McClure, Colin Reece, Ryan Nikirk and Travis Moats were constantly in the grills of the Mustangs.
Offensively, Cole Menas began to own the Gamber defense with rollouts around their ends, which set up the game breaking double reverse that saw Bryce Rogers speed through the Mustang line at 3:26 mark of the third quarter for 32 yard TD romp.
The final decisive play came late in the fourth quarter when Dylan Vann recoverd  a Mustang fumble deep in their own territory and then Steve Smothers rolled 11 yards for a first down that allowed the Warriors to take a knee to end the game.
The win moves the Pony A's to 2-1 and second place in the division and sets up a huge encounter next Sunday against the always tough Bulldogs of Mt. Airy.

After little gain on the field, Boonsboro gave the ball up to Gamber. On defense, Jacob Feaster had another great day with many great tackles and two quarterback sacks. Boonsboro JV A vs Gamber

9/5/09

Our JV team headed to Gamber on a Saturday evening to face the Mustangs. Boonsboro elected to receive the kickoff and it was fielded by #1 Malik Curtis. On 1st and 10, #11 Bo Bodenheimer took the handoff up the middle for a gain of 4 yards. After two more carries by # 38 Nick Knight and Bo, Boonsboro had to punt on 4th down.

Gamber received the punt at their own 30 yard line. On 1st and 10, the Gamber runner was tackled after a gain of 2 yards by #54 Connor McClellan and #19 Logan Roberts. On 2nd down Gamber tried to run but was stuffed for a loss by #14 Tyler Leone. On 3rd and 8, Gamber attempted a pass, but the QB was under pressure from #38 Nick Knight and threw an interception to #11 Bo Bodenheimer, who returned the ball to the 10 yard line. On the next series, the Warriors tried to get into the end zone, with a nice reception by #38 Nick Knight from Tyler, but they turned the ball over on downs at the 4 yard line, which ended the 1st quarter.

On 1st and 10 for Gamber, they gained 8 yards, but could gain no more thanks to a tackle by #74 Jakob Barkdoll. On 2nd and 2, #12 Nick Hubbard made a nice tackle in the backfield. On 3rd and 3, Gamber could not gain any due to a swarm of Warrior tacklers. On 4th down, they bobbled the punt snap, and Boonsboro ended up with the ball on the 17 yard line of Gamber.

After a 1st down with no gain, the Warriors handed the ball off to #11 Bo Bodenheimer who gained 4 yards. Then #1 Malik Curtis gained 3 up the middle. On third down the Warriors hit pay dirt with #11 Bo Bodenheimer scoring a TD! The point after attempt was unsuccessful but Boonsboro had the lead 6-0.

The Warrior kickoff was returned to the 47 yard line of Boonsboro. On 1st and 10 for Gamber, the runner gained 10 yards before being stopped by #2 Brent Leone.  On 1st and 10 again, the Gamber runner gained 5 yards before being tackled by #54 Connor McClellan and #74 Jakob Barkdoll.  On 2nd and 5 for Gamber, there was no gain due to #12 Nick Hubbard and #52 Walter Riley. After a facemask penalty against Gamber, and an incomplete pass, they faked a punt and made it to the ½ yard line where two plays later they scored. The point after attempt was no good, which left the score at 6-6.

Boonsboro fielded the kickoff and made it to the 42 yard line of Gamber. The Warriors were anxious to move the ball. They pitched to #11 Bo Bodenheimer who gained 13 yards. The next play was an incomplete pass, then a handoff to #12 Nick Hubbard for a small gain, but time ran out in the 2nd quarter.

At the start of the 3rd quarter, the Warriors kicked off to Gamber, who returned the ball to their own 47 yard line. After a holding penalty made it 1st and 20, the Mustangs gained 11 yards before being stopped by #2 Brent Leone. The Mustangs went into their no-huddle/shotgun mode, and gained a 1st down after tackles by #54 Connor McClellan, #19 Logan Roberts, and #1 Malik Curtis. On 2nd and 3, Gamber completed a pass to the 19 yard line of Boonsboro and the receiver was brought down by #2 Brent Leone. Gamber ended up with a 1st and goal at the 8 yard line, but the Warrior defense would hold. After a bobbled shotgun snap, in which the QB was swarmed by the Warriors, they attempted a pass to the end zone, but due to QB pressure from #42 Austin Getridge and #38 Nick Knight, it didn’t make it , and the Gamber receiver was called for offensive pass interference. After 3rd and 4th downs with no gain, the Warriors took over on downs on their own 17 yard line.

The next series wasn’t good for the Warriors, who attempted to move the ball, but ended up with a 4th and 33, and had to punt. #38 Nick Knight made the saving tackle at the 6 yard line. Two plays later, Gamber scored a TD with the PAT no good. The score was now 12-6 Gamber.

The Mustang kickoff was returned by #1 Malik Curtis to the 35 yard line of Boonsboro. On 1st and 10, Bo gained 4 yards on the handoff. Then on 2nd down a pass to Bo resulted in a gain of 3 yards, then Tyler gained the 1st down on the next run. On 2nd and 10, the Boonsboro pass attempt was intercepted by Gamber, and #1 Malik Curtis made the tackle.

Gamber tried to move the ball on the next series, and the Warriors kept them out of the end zone. They did gain a couple of first downs, but were kept in check by excellent defensive play by #19 Logan Roberts, #52 Walter Riley, and #74 Jakob Barkdoll and the rest of the Warrior defense! Final score Gamber 12, Boonsboro 6. Great job Warriors and see you next week against Mt. Airy.

#30 Alex Wetzel received the kickoff at the 40 yard line. #16 Devin Griffith ran for 7 yards on 1st and 10. The Warriors attempted 3 more times to run, but were unsuccessful. Gamber took over, only to be stopped on 4th and short by the awesome Boonsboro defense! The Warriors took over again with Devin Griffith, Brent Leone, and Alex Wetzel running to make a 4th and 5, which Devin converted into a first down. This ended the 3rd quarter. Boonsboro fumbled the ball on 2nd and 14, where the Mustangs recovered and took possession.  The Warriors showed their strong defensive talent with tackles made by Alex, #24 Nick Miller, Brent, #20 Dillon Bodenheimer, and #32 Gavin Summers. The Mustangs gained a first down on 3rd and 2. On 2nd and 9, they false started, pushing them back 5 yards. They fumbled the ball and Boonsboro recovered it. The Warriors were penalized for a holding on 1st and 10, forcing a 1st and 20. They were unable to convert and Gamber took over with time running out. The Mustangs gained a 1st down, and were unable to score before the clock reached 0. Final score Boonsboro Warriors 6, Gamber Mustangs 0. Great job guys! Good luck next week against Mt. Airy!!

Sunday the 13th was a test of two 2-1 squads for the right to call themselves early on playoff contenders. However, it was the not the Warriors who laid claim to the title  as   Mt. Airy with "Bulldog determination"  seized a second quarter lead and never relinquished it on their way to a  12-0 whitewashing of Boonsboro.
The Warriors began the game with the ball and went  four and out. It did not take for the Bulldogs to show their powerful running game as they marched down the field before giving the ball up on downs deep in Warrior territory after Brett Duft made a saving tackle on a 4th and 2 situation. The Warriors could not capitalize against the stingy Mt. Airy defense and again was forced to punt. This time Mt. Airy would not be denied as they took seven plays and hit the endzone at 7:49 mark of the second quarter. The score remained at 6-0 until the half.
The seond half showed a Warrior defensive effort that frustrated the Bulldogs efforts to increase their margin. Boonsboro halted Mt. Airy on the Warrior 19 after a twelve play march and then again after a seven play assault. Amassing only 44 total yards offensively Boonsboro could not sustain a drive to knot the score and an tired defense finally gave up another touch to the Bulldogs with only 1:08 left in the game. The 12-0 score stood.
Accolades defensively went out to Steve Smothers with 9 tackles, Brett Duft and Bryce Rogers with 5 and Cole Menas with 4 1/2. Offensively , Cole Means gained 30 of the Warrior yards on seven carries.
Sunday the 20th will see  the boys from Boon try to go above the.500 mark against the Cougars of Catoctin at 1:00 pm on the Warrior Hunting Ground.

Boonsboro started the game with a great kick-off by Robert Fink. Unfortunately, on the third play of the game, Boonsboro’s defense gave up a 75-yard touchdown. Mount Airy tried for the extra point but Nick Kidwell had a great sack in the backfield. Making the score 0-6 Mount Airy. With little action on the field, the Warriors gave the ball back to Mount Airy and then turned the game around with great plays from their defense. There were three great plays in a row from Jacob Feaster, Nick Kidwell, and Junior Krenzer.  Back on offense, we had a few good runs from Haven Huntsberry, Kwantae White, and Nick Nelson. On the fourth down, Ben Burgan had a great 45 yard run. Unfortunately, the Warriors did not score and gave the ball back to Mount Airy. Our defense had a great series again, with two great plays made by Jacob Feaster and Ben Burgan to get the ball back from Mount Airy. With the ball back, Haven Huntsberry and Kwantae White continued with great runs. Unfortunately they did not make the first down and were forced to give the ball back to Mount Airy. Boonsboro then continued to do a great job on defense, holding Mount Airy to end the half 0-6.

Warriors got the ball first to start the third quarter. Great 15 yard run by Ben Burgan; however, the offense could not get things going and had to give the ball up to Mount Airy. The Warriors had four great defensive plays once again, four and out for Mount Airy’s offense to end the third quarter. To open the fourth quarter, Ben Burgan had a 25 yard run. Unfortunately, they had to give the ball up to Mount Airy’s offense. Then on defense, Finian McGrane had a great play to force a fumble and got the ball back for the Warriors. Then on offense there was a great run by Isaiah Redman for a touchdown to tie the score 6-6. Then the defense had three great plays, by Ryan Nikirk and Isaiah Redman, to save the game for the Warriors. Another great fumble recovery by Cullen Rathman. On the second play of offense, Nick Nelson had a great 35 yard touchdown run with help from Junior Krenzer with great blocking on the play. And another great win by the Warriors 12-6, great job guys!

Mt. Airy @ Boonsboro

9/13/09

This week, the Mt. Airy Bulldogs traveled to Boonsboro during the busiest weekend of the whole year, Boonsboro Days. The Warrior fans were excited as always for their JV B team. #64 Sam Krasney of the Warriors received the kick at the 25 yard line. #16 Devin Griffith gained a first down on the first play. The Warriors were unsuccessful at gaining another first down, so the Bulldogs took over. They scored a touchdown on the second play of the drive. The extra point attempt was no good, making the score 6-0 Mt. Airy.

#43 Duncan Rowland of the Warriors received the kick and ran for an extra 10 yards to the Mt. Airy 47 yard line. #2 Brent Leone had an amazing run of 22 yards on 1st and 10. The Warriors were again unsuccessful at converting to a first down, and Mt. Airy regained possession of the ball. They scored another touchdown after gaining a first down, and once again the extra point was prevented by the Warrior defense. This ended the first quarter at 12-0 Mt. Airy.

#18 Hunter Jacobs received the kick to start the 2nd quarter. The Warriors showed excellent effort once again, but were unable to gain a first down. When the Bulldogs took over, Boonsboro displayed once again how awesome their defense is, forcing a 4th and 14 and a punt, received by #16 Devin Griffith. The Warriors faced a 4th and 1, but were not able to gain a first down. The half ended with #43 Duncan Rowland tackling the runner for a loss of 10 yards on 2nd and 10. The score remained 12-0 in favor of Mt. Airy.

The Bulldogs began the 2nd half with a lateral pass for a loss of 3 yards. On the next play, they scored another touchdown, and the Warriors prevented the extra point. The score was now 18-0 Mt. Airy. Boonsboro fumbled the ball on 2nd and 13, giving possession back to the Bulldogs. They made a decent effort, but once again, they could not handle the Warrior defense. Boonsboro took over again, only to have another fumble recovered by Mt. Airy to end the 3rd quarter.

The Warrior defense was faced with a 2nd and goal when Mt. Airy’s QB attempted to pass. It was intercepted by #16 Devin Griffith. He ran about 40 yards before being tackled. Boonsboro attempted to score, but they faced a 4th and long and were sadly unsuccessful. Mt. Airy took over again, and was unable to gain a first down. The Warriors tried their best to score, but time ran out. The game ended with the score Bulldogs 18, Warriors 0. Good try guys! Beat Catoctin next week!

An rejuvenated offense that unveiled a shotgun backfield and a fired up defense stunned the Catoctin Cougar Pony A's with a convincing 18-6 victory Sunday the 20th on "The Hunting Grounds" at Boonsboro.
Catoctin brought in an offense seldom seen in the last 60 years, the single wing, with lots of motion and deception built into its execution. However, the Warriors adjusted  after an initial Cougar TD and completely shutdown the Catoctin  Magic Show with smothering pursuit and "gang tackling" that limited the Cougars to only 2 total yards in the 2nd half.
Early on the Cougars did show why defensing this 19th century offense is a challenge and took an early lead 6-0 at 7:28 mark of the 2nd stanza. This was a capitalization on a Warrior fumble that occured on the Cougar 2 and lead to a 98 yd. drive to paydirt.
The Warriors responded in kind three minutes later as a bit of "Warrior Voodoo" of its own had Bryce Rogers take a reverse 30 yards to the endzone. Then the Warriors attempted something seldom. ifever seen at this level and tried a kicking extra point using the powerful leg of Bobby Fink, but a bad snap spoiled the effort.
It did not take Boonsboro long to strike again in the second quarter as Cole Menas swept the right side into the "happy hunting ground" again from 4 yards out with 1:15 left in the half. The conversion failed, but the boys took a 12-6 lead to the half.
The second half was a total domination by the Boonsboro defense as the Warriors stifled catoctin to only 2 yards after they had baffled the Warriors amassing 85 yards in the first half. The Warrior offense amassed more yardage and ran their offensive totals to 232 yards both in the air and on the ground including a Bryce Rogers 13 yd. scamper to the endzone at the 3:11 mark of quarter three. With that score the Warriors took an 18-6 lead which stood until the final whistle.
Accolades were plentiful in the win. On defense Jack Krasny, Bryce Rogers, Steve Smothers and Cole Menas each  5 tackles. Additionally, Menas garnered two sacks and Rogers picked off a Cougar pass. Jared Tribbett, Kwantae White, Benny Burgan and Ryan Sharpless also had outstanding games on defense.
Offensively, Cole Menas gained 83 yds. on 11 carriesand a TD, Bryce Rogers had 67 yards on 6 carries and two TDs and Brett Duft  34 yards on 9 hauls. Duft also threw for 4 yds. to Rogers and   Rogers tossed a 22 yd pass to Travis Moats.
The win puts the Warriors at 3-2 on the season and sets up a match with the always tough Cadets from Frederick on Sunday the 27th.

A great day for a game against the visiting Catoctin Cougars. The Warrior talent was alive and kicking for this game. Boonsboro kicked off,and then recovered the kickoff, giving them 1st and 10. It took the Warriors only two plays to get into the end zone with a run by Bo Bodenheimer, and the extra point was good, making it 7-0 in favor of Boonsboro.
The Warriors kicked off, and Catoctin went 4 plays and out.
Boonsboro got the ball back, and after 2 runs by Bo Bodenheimer, and a run by Nick Hubbard and another by Nick Knight, Malik Curtis took the ball to the house for the 2nd Warrior TD. PAT was good, now 14-0 Boonsboro.
The Cougars received the kickoff and gained 7 yards but went 4 plays and out again. The Warriors got the ball back and kept a long drive alive with passes completed to Connor McClellan, Nick Hubbard, and Nick Knight. The drive was capped off with a run for a TD by Tyler Leone. PAT was successful, with the score now 21-0 Boonsboro.
After another Warrior kickoff, the Cougars tried to move the ball, this time getting 2 first downs in a series. However the Boonsboro defense
held and kept the Cougars in check the rest of the game.
Many Warriors contributed to the defensive effort, with great teamwork and speed shown on the field. The Warrior offense moved the ball with Cory DeBaugh, Alex Wetzel, Brent Leone, and Jacob Dillow running the ball the remainder of the game. The score, 21-0 Boonsboro!
    Great job Warriors!!!

Walkersville @ Boonsboro JV B

The Walkersville JV B team came up to Boonsboro this week. They were larger in size, but the talent was pretty much equal. The Warriors received the kickoff and #64 Sam Krasny ran for 7 yards. They gained a first down on 2nd and 5 off of a Walkersville penalty, but were unable to convert. The Lions took over and went 4 and out. On the next play, Walkersville recovered a Boonsboro fumble and regained possession of the ball. They gained a first down, but weren’t able to convert afterwards.

The 2nd quarter began with #2 Brent Leone of the Warriors running for 25 yards and a first down. They were unable to convert after that, and Walkersville took over again. On 2nd and 11, the Lions quarterback completed a pass for a touchdown. The extra point pass was deflected by Brent Leone. Walkersville recovered the kickoff and scored again on a pass on 3rd and 6. This time the extra point was good. The score at the end of the half was 13-0 Lions.

Walkersville received the kickoff from the Warriors to start the 2nd half. They went 4 and out, and Boonsboro took over. They gained 3 first downs. On the last one, #16 Devin Griffith scored a touchdown. The extra point was no good, but the Warriors put points on the board and made the score 13-6, and this ended the quarter.

The Lions began the 4th quarter going 4 and out. Fortunately for them, and unfortunately for the Warriors, Boonsboro fumbled and Walkersville recovered. They ended up punting on 4th and 15, but the Warriors blocked it. They took over with time running out. 3 first downs were gained, and on 3rd and goal at the 2½ yard line, #16 Devin Griffith ran for another TD. The extra point was good, and the score was now 13 all. It remained that way until the end of the game. Great job Warriors! Good luck against Frederick!!

A fired up 3-2 Warrior A Pony squad gave the undefeated Lions of Walkersville one of their toughest games of this season. but our efforts fell short in the final quarter as we went down 24 -12 Saturday at Heritage Park.
After falling behind early 6-0 with only 2 minutes gone in the first quarter, the Warriors showed their determination marching 46 yards 12 plays into the Lions den to serve notice that today the Lions were not facing an easy foe. The drive which started after a 25 yd. Brett Duft kickoff return culminated when Jack Krasny rolled through the Lions on an eight yd. scamper to the endzone. This came with 48 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Walkersville answered the Boonsboro score 11 play drive of their own scoring a TD at the 4:22 mark of the second quarter. They added to the margin following a second Warrior fumble with just 48 seconds remaining on an 11 yd. counter play, a play they had great success with all day in crucial situations , increasing the lead to 18-6.
However, just when the Lions seemed to be a prowl to a rout, the Warriors scored a Td with 1.3 seconds remaining the half when Bryce Rogers stunned the Lions with a 15 yd TD to bring the Warriors to within 6 at the half.
The second started promising for the boys from the Boon , when on the Lions first play from scrimmage they coughed up a fumble caused by Jared Tribbett putting the Warriors in business immediately at the Walkersville 47.  The excitement was shortlived as we fumbled it right back on the next play.
The second half then became a battle of defenses that saw only one more TD, that being a Lions TD at the 7:51 mark of the 4th stanza.
The Warriors made one of their strongest efforts of the year, but it was just not enough to overcome a powerful Lions squad.
Several boys had excellent games on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Bryce Rogers lead the way with 78 yds on 8 carries and a touchdown. Cole Menas added 26 yds and Jack Krasny contributed  27 more. On the defensive side Rogers also lead the tackling with 6, Menas and Jared Tribbett had 5 and Ryan Sharpless 4 in a very physical and hotly contest fray.
The Warriors return home this Sunday to face boys from Tusarora AT 1:00. a win could keep playoff hopes alive.

After a hard fought battle with the big bad Walkersville Lions, our varsity Warriors prevailed...
The scoreboard did not show our victory,(Lions 30  Warriors 13) because our victory was on the field.
Out numbered 3 to 1 our boys battled with intensity, tenacity, and especially HEART, and showed those Lions
they were nothing but little kittens.

I think our boys really understand now what football is all about.  Keep up the great work, and
keep having fun.   I'm proud of you all,

Sunday the 11th was a crisp autumn day perfect for football, but on the field it became more perfect for the FYSA Titans as they rolled to 32-18 win over the Warriors in a game punctuated with huge plays on both sides of the ball.
The first fireworks of the afternoon came on a Titan interception of a Brett Duft pass that went 59 yds. to paydirt and a 7-0 Titan margin after they converted the PAT.
However, the Warriors did not hesitate in their response. Following a Bryce Rogers 20 yd. gallop, Rogers fired a 65 yd. TD pass to to Travis "TD" Moats at the 4:08 mark of the first quarter and  brought the Warriors back to within one.
The Titans then fumbled on their first play from scrimmage following the Boon TD with Dylan Vann falling on the loose pigskin. Unfortunately, on the insuing  series Boonsboro lost Rogers to an injury and a 30 yard penalty accessed against the Warrior bench gave the Titans a "gift" spot on the Warrior 18 yard line. It took only one play for the Titans to capitalize and up their  lead to 14-6 still in the first quarter.
The second quarter became a game of field position and sloppy play for both teams and the 14-6 margin held until halftime.
It wasn't until 28 seconds remained in the third quarter would there be a  score change . Following a blocked Warrior punt attempt the Titans went for the endzone on 4th and goal and scored on a 2 yard run  upping  their  lead to 20-6. Their PAT  failed.
Once again, the Warriors answered the call quickly as Jack Krasny stunned the Titans and energized the Warrior faithful with a 71 yard kick return to the Titan endzone.
FYSA answered the Krasny TD when they drove 63 yards on six plays to regain their 14 point lead at the 6:02 mark of the 4th quarter.
Cole Menas then borrowed a page from Krasny and returned the Titan kickoff 50 yards to the FYSA 10. With the Warriors now first and goal, two bad snaps turned the elation into deflation when the second bad snap was scooped up by a Titan linebacker and returned 73 yds. for yet another FYSA score and a 32 -12 bulge.
Incredibly, Menas once again  took the  kickoff and rolled back 38 yards deep into Titan territory.
Jack Krasny then scored his second TD taking a reverse 16 yds. to the happy hunting grounds. The PAT failed and that would be the end of the scoring for the afternoon.
The loss drops the Warrior Pony A's to 3-4 with two games remaining against Brunswick and Frederick, two games they must win if they hope to see the playoffs.
Offensively, the Warriors ,outside of the Rogers to Moats 65 yd. bomb, manged only 71 rushing yards with Menas gaining 28, Rogers 24 [prior to his injury] and Krasny 19.
Kwantae White paced the defense with 4 1/2 tackles, Menas and Krasny with 4, and Ben Burgan 3 1/2.
Next up the Jr. Railroaders from Brunswick this Sunday the 18th at 1:00 pm on the Warrior turf.

FYSA @ Boonsboro JV B

10/11/09

The visiting FYSA Titans had a tough time against the Warriors this week. They fumbled on 1st and 10, recovered by #23 Colin Mannix. This set up a series of plays that included a 60 yard run by #2 Brent Leone and a 1st and goal TD run by #44 Chris Deckert. The extra point attempt was no good. FYSA got the ball again, only to fumble on their second 1st and 10, recovered by #7 Matt Porterfield of the Warriors. They went 4 and out to end the 1st quarter.

The Titans were forced to go for a 3rd and 20, when they fumbled again and #23 Colin Mannix was there to recover it. The Warriors used this turnover and #40 Owen Glass ran for a TD. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful, and the score was now 0-12 Warriors. FYSA couldn’t convert a 1st down, so they were forced to give the ball back to Boonsboro. QB Brent Leone completed a pass to #7 Matt Porterfield on 2nd and 15. Brent also ran on 4th and 5 for the first down. On 2nd and goal, #16 Devin Griffith ran for the TD. This time, the extra point was good, making the score 0-19 Boonsboro. FYSA was unable to score, and that ended the half.

The Titans came back in the 2nd half with a TD run on 3rd and 21. The extra point was no good, with tackles made by #83 Blake Dougherty and #43 Duncan Rowland. FYSA recovered a fumble on the kickoff and got the ball back. It came down to a 4th and goal, and the Warrior defense was able to prevent the TD.

The 4th quarter was mostly changes of possession because both teams were unable to gain first downs. Final score: Warriors 19 Titans 6. Good job guys!! Let’s beat Brunswick next week!

Week eight produced the most convincing win of the season by the Pony A Warriors.Using  a stifling defense that saw 12 different Warriors contribute tackles and a potent offense that amassed 262 yards on the ground and through the air they completely derailed  the boys from Brunswick 26-6 in a contest that could have been even more lopsided than the final tally.

The Warriors struck early in the first stanza when Jack Kransy busted into the endzone from 4 yards out  following a Bryce Rogers to Travis Moats 25 yard pass completion. The PAT  failed. Then in the insuing series Boonsboro drove 38 yards to inside the five only to fumble on the two. The Railroaders responded with an explosion of their own as their back rolled 98 yards untouched for a tying score.
That would be the last highlight of the day for Brunswick as from that point on they were held to minus 45 yards of offense by a devastating Boonsboro defense that  completely dominated the line of scrimmage.  A defense lead by Darren Tribett with 4 tackles , Cole Menas with three a sack and fumble recovery and Travis Moats with a sack and fumble recovery among many other Warrior defensive stalwarts.
Offensively it was no different. Bryce Rogers would score on a TD with 1:27 left in the second quarter and then complete a PAT pass to Zach McClure to up the halftime margin 13-6. The Warriors struck again at the 3:59 mark of the third whne Cole Menas streaked 14 yards to Railroader land and once again Rogers found the  passing PAT mark when he hit Travis Moats. This increased the lead to 20-6.
Menas would have scored again at the 1:34 mark of the same period but a 39 yard gallop was called back due to block in the back. Undaunted, Menas delivered the pigskin with 6:09 in the fourth quarter to paydirt as he ran 14 yards untouched to close out the Warrior scoring.
The final impressive display of the day was when the Boonsboro second string offense filled with A/B players, who earlier in the day had completed an undefeated season by blanking Middletown 8-0 , drove 44 yards on 6 plays to the Brunswick two, before Brett Duft mercifully took a knee to end the game.
There were many offensive braves on this day with Cole Menas garnering 73 yds , Bryce Rogers  40,Jack  Krasny 36,Benny  Burgan 29, Zach McClure 22 and Steve Smothers 21.
The Warriors close out their regular season next Sunday at frederick's legendary McCurdy Field against the Cadets, while the A/B players play in a specail bowl game at catoctin on Saturday against once again Middletown
